Feb 24

I wont’ have a lot of news in this update because my week was basically consumed in preparing the talk for last nights weekly meeting. Late nights, cancelled appointments, lots of revision. The first time I practiced my talk it was over an hour long. I was shooting for 25 minutes. I trimmed it down to around 30, which was still acceptable. I think the talk went pretty well. No one got up and left. No one booed, and no one accused me of heresy. I didn’t pass out or wet my pants from nervousness. But my stomach did feel uneasy starting a half hour before, and lasted the rest of the night. Overall it was a good experience. Apparently I hid my nerves well except when I picked up my notes to change pages and people up front could see my hands shaking. But I was really thankful for Jim, Christina, Lauren, Shannon and Hayley coming for the night… and bringing me a caramel cake for my birthday. And I was really grateful for my parents coming down and going to the basketball game with me Wed and staying for the meeting… and bringing me a cookie cake for my birthday. And I was really encouraged when my staff team took me out to dinner before the meeting… and bought me an ice cream cake at TCBY after the meeting for my birthday. But since my stomach was upset I couldnt’ enjoy all of the cakes, but I’ve made up for it today.

My talk was about relationships last night — non-dating. I would post the text from the talk on here, but it’s kind of long. I’ll be happy to email it to anyone who is interested. Or maybe I can put it in a different place on this site.
Other news… One guy, Matt, from Ultimate frisbee came to the meeting. And my new roommate, Preston, was there.

Babysitting for Michael is still going well. His girls are a handful. We usually feed them dinner, and they always want McDonald’s or Burger King. We’re working on alternatives to that for financial and health reasons. I haven’t talked to him about Dave Ramsey yet. I mentioned us meeting for lunch again and he sounded a little hesitant. So please pray that he will be open to meeting me more regularly and that there will be a way I can serve him besides just child care.

Pray also for rest this weekend, and good time with the Lord.

I really appreciate the comments from the last email. And thanks to all of you who remembered my birthday. I felt very encouraged.

Drew
